The Shahi Baklava

Image
Hello Folks!!! “Travelling leaves you speechless, and then it turns you into a story-teller” -Ibn Battuta This sweet is so luscious that a small diamond or even two can take you to realms unknown. Its perfumed, sweet and tender layers soaked in honey and crowned in nuts is a delight for the soul. Whenever I have travelled with my family to Dubai, we always break at a beautiful sweet shop to enjoy those delicate baklavas. It’s best to eat them as soon as you buy them since, they will be warm and crispy and secondly, its tempting aroma won’t allow you to wait a second more. My love for this sweet has a very long story and since the first bite until now, I never miss a chance to grab one as soon as I spot it. I remember, as a child, I would fill my plate with as many different Middle Eastern deserts as it could accommodate, one among my favourites  being the baklava. When I was abroad, I had very beautiful Egyptian friends- ‘Didi’ and ‘Caroline’, two sisters who use...

Quesadilla - Obra Maestra

Image
Hello Folks!!! As I mentioned in my previous cooked up story, I am sharing the next "delicioso receta" we came across during the preparation for our Home Science practicals in 10th grade. Here I am listening to 'Un Poco Loco' from the movie COCO, sipping some fresh apple juice and munching hot quesadillas, I just remembered the happy smiles on the judges’ faces when they took the first bite from this dish. Their smiles just confirmed how marvellously the dish was prepared. The right amount of passion, skill and creativity completed  the masterpiece. The special dish you must try out today is Quesadilla, pronounced as /ˌkeɪsəˈdiːjə/   ( kay-se -diyeh).   One dish that is just too good to ignore - its golden crispy tortilla, the molten cheese and juicy meat seasoned with pretty flakes of magical dust. None can resist the temptation!!!   The beautiful saga  of Quesadilla A quesadilla is a Mexican dish which is made from a tortilla filled with chees...

Easy Peasy Tortillas

Hello Folks!!! Here, I will be showing you how to make an easy, tasty and nutritious tortilla right at home. For the purpose of better understanding, a tortilla is a thin, flat round bread made of corn and wheat flour and cooked on a stove, but don’t confuse yourself between a roti and tortilla. A roti usually is made using tougher dough as compared to a tortilla that uses vegetable shortening in order to create the silky smooth texture. This recipe will be very simple so that you can make it any time you want to eat a quesadilla /make a pizza base/nachos anything you want!!! All you need to do is get creative. RECIPE INGREDIENTS 1.All purpose flour (Maida) – 2 cups 2.Water – ¾ cup 3.Olive oil – 3 tbsp 4.Salt – ½ tsp INSTRUCTIONS 1.In a bowl, combine the flour and salt and add water and oil to it. Knead the dough and add a little water or flour to achieve the right smoothness. 2. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes. 3. Roll the dough into small balls and f...

Image
Hello Folks!!! Trust all of you are doing well and tried out some of my recipes (do let me know what you prepared and how you enjoyed it in the comments section… I’ll be really excited to know). It has been long since I posted my last cooked up story and I really missed you all as I was immersed in preparations for my exams which just got over today. Today, I thought of bringing a new dish to your attention that has a very funny name, yet equally tasty – Devilled eggs, also known as stuffed eggs/ Russian eggs. This is a very simple recipe and I’m sure you will definitely try it out as soon as you read it. I came across this dish when I was in my 10 th grade. We had our Home Science practical exam, an exam whose news spread like rapid fire and never failed to reach even the farthest corners of our school, yeah our school was enormous. I still remember the chaos, as soon as the dates of the exam were announced, all the teachers and students used to book the dish they wanted t...
