What's For Breakfast? - Waffles!

Hello Folks!!!

You may eat them sweet or savoury, with your fingers or a fork, soaked in syrup or sprinkled with sugar, but we agree- waffles are wonderful. Got an instant craving? Then keep reading to make yourself some crispy yet light and fluffy waffles.

During my school days, weekends during hols were meant for sleepovers and fun time with my friends. As soon as the exams were over and the school bell rang, the silent corridors turned noisy, and we would run across the passage to meet at our secret hideout- the wooden bench under the tree. That beautiful spot brings memories even today. Most of our ideas came to life over there. It was where we shared our snacks, planned our next adventure, and waited for our parents to pick us up on sunny afternoons.

Though we were experts in addition and subtraction, we were still trying luck with multiplication and long division. Our love for creativity, precision and challenge made us 9-year-olds work better at certain subjects. Whether it was arithmetic, designing or cooking, whenever our minds got tangled in a mess of incomprehensible terms and metrics, we always tried to throw in some of our own intelligible contributions.

Dawning with many possibilities, the next morning we woke up at our friend’s house. After a night of storytelling and games, we were so hungry that we were ready to swallow even a mountain. My friend’s mother was busy, so we decided to make some pancakes since we saw a jar of marula jam on the kitchen counter. All of us pretended to be great chefs since Home Economics was a mandatory subject. Alas! our arithmetic went wrong somewhere and unexpectedly we ended up with excess batter. Our heads went wibbly wobbly, giving us many crazy ideas. The tall shelf with the pans caught my attention and I soon remembered the cooking show where a funny pan with tiny compartments was used to make light crispy square pancakes.

That day ended up with us having waffles for breakfast and attempting it wasn’t as difficult as the name sounded back then!

I’m sure that with all those faulty and muddled recipes, we have now learnt how to transform a patchy batter into impressively beautiful waffles. Don’t shy from trying out something creative because you never know what mysteries lie in the corner, waiting to be unravelled.
