Candies and Peanuts! 'these are a few of my favourite things'

Hello Folks!!!

"There's nothing as cozy as a piece of candy and a book" says Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.

The word candy is enough to brighten up your boring day and make you happy.

I am a huge candy fan! Wherever there is candy or any other kind of sweet dish, just look around and I will be there. During my 7th grade summer vacation, my grandfather came over and we decided to visit my grand aunt in Pondicherry. She was just lovely. With wavy white hair, a beaming smile and a lovely French accent, both of us had one thing in common - our love for candy. She loved this particular one called  'Kopiko', a coffee flavoured candy.  However, the day before we went to visit her, we searched all the shops, every nook and corner! But no luck …  having lost all our hopes of finding the Kopiko candy, we left for Pondicherry early in the morning . On the way, I found a mini truck offloading Kopiko I was overjoyed.... Even if candy is playing hide and seek, I can always find it .... after all , I am the candy seeker😜.

My love for candy started when I first went into this amazing sweet shop. There were rows dedicated for each variety of sweet, and special areas where they would sell sweets shaped like grocery items. The shop was so huge that it would take you a whole day to finish walking through each aisle, I wish those moments would last forever. It looked so heavenly and beautiful that it completely drew me towards it. This shop had a very attractive name "Sweets from Heaven", in Game City, Gaborone. Entering that shop felt like I was Charlie walking into the chocolate factory. There were uncountable varieties of sweets- candy canes, gummi bears, smarties, gumdrops, gummi worms, Swedish fish, chocolate coins, candies in all exotic flavours and the list is just endless!

Whenever we went out for shopping, I would always visit that shop, and because I was one of their regular customers, I would always get a free candy necklace or bracelet. Oh! I have a sweet tooth and anybody can lure me into a trap with sweets.

Here is one very easy recipe that anyone can try and I'm sure everyone will love it, except those who are allergic to peanut. Peanut brittle is an old fashioned sweet, hard candy that can be enjoyed during family picnics and holidays, or any time of the year.

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

1.Peanuts (roasted and salted)- 2 cups.

2.Sugar – 2 cups

3.Butter- 2tbsp

4.Corn syrup- 1 cup

5.Water – ½ cup

6.Baking soda – 1 ½ tsp

7.Vanilla extract – ½ tsp

INSTRUCTIONS

1.Add sugar and water in a saucepan and mix well. Stir in the corn syrup. Cooking over medium heat while stirring occasionally till it comes to a slight boil.

2.Cok until it becomes 121°C.

3.Add the peanuts and stir the mixture until the temperature reaches 148°C.

4.Remove mixture from heat and immediately stir in the butter, baking soda and vanilla extract. The texture of the mixture will change now.

5.Carefully pour the mixture into a pan lined with butter paper. Spread the mixture evenly.

6.Once cooled, break into small pieces and enjoy with a cup of tea! Store it in an air tight jar.

  2. Hello my curious reader, I'm very happy that you read my blog so keenly. A dash of Vanilla extract adds an ethereal flavour and variety to an otherwise mundane recipe. Just add a little vanilla extract and try this time.
